Former U-S Attorney Joe Hogsett says he plans to file the necessary paperwork to form an exploratory committee for a possible run as mayor of Indianapolis.
Speaking with Inside Indiana Business, Hogsett says there was a lot he wasn‘t able to do over the last four years as U-S Attorney, including discussing political matters.
Now that he‘s left the U-S Attorney‘s office and has begun work at the law firm Bose, McKinney and Evans, Hogsett says he hopes to talk with a wide variety of people over the coming weeks and months.
"I want to be doing a lot of listening and engage in a lot of conversations with a wide variety of different people like educators and police officers and neighborhood groups and civic activists and business leadership at all levels, small, medium, and large," says Hogsett.
He says he plans to file the necessary paperwork required by law to form his exploratory committee within the next week or two.
Hogsett says the crime and public safety is the big issue he wants to tackle. He says his time as a federal prosecutor gave him a unique chance to look at crime from every angle including the education system and job availability as well as staffing levels in law enforcement.
Hogsett says he has great respect for Mayor Greg Ballard‘s two terms in office. He says he was glad to see Ballard‘s crime proposal and that his administration acknowledged that something has to be done now about the crime issue in Indianapolis.
