Hershman elected to fourth term in Senate

Brandt Hershman believes Indiana is moving in the right direction and he thinks that is the reason voters chose him for another term.

"I think it's a reflection that many people feel that, even in an uncertain economy nationwide, that Indiana has largely been on the right track, by limiting our spending and focusing on our core priorities," he said.

The State Senator representing District Seven defeated Democratic challenger Brad Thompson for the seat that includes Jasper, White, Carroll, Tippecanoe, Clinton, and Boone counties.

He says his main focus in his next term is the budget.

“I think  job one will be a balanced budget," he said, "that protects essential services and protects everything from K-12 education to Purdue and our higher education institutions which are some of our strongest selling points in addition to our tax rate when it comes to bringing jobs to the state.”

Hershman also thinks the state needs to market itself better to attract more businesses and says reducing the corporate income tax rate will help do that.

He also wants to work on combating gang violence, especially in his district.
