Ivy Tech Lafayette creating One Stop Center

Ivy Tech-Lafayette is planning a smoother transition for incoming students. The community college is creating a One Stop Center designed to improve customer service.

Dr. John Laws, vice chancellor for student affairs, says the move will increase efficiency and improve service to the students.

“Right now, we’re similar to this One Stop concept with all of our services being located close to each other,” he says. “The future is to cross-train our employees, so the students will not have to move between offices, rather just this one office area.”

New and current Ivy Tech students should benefit from the relocation of the several offices on campus. Admissions, the bursar, financial aid and registration are being co-located.

Laws says the move also will be more efficient for staff.

“For example, we don’t have receptionists in each of the different offices that have to be hired and trained, but we’d have one reception area,” he says. “And then, because people will be crossed-trained, our staff will be able to better assist the students.”

Construction of the One Stop Center should be completed by mid-December. Laws says it will open in January on the Lafayette campus. Several other regions are doing the same, before the concept goes system-wide next fall.
