Long Center volunteer wins Crystal Bison Award

A Lafayette area resident is being recognized for his contributions to the community.

Former Long Center Board President Dave Lahr is the sixth recipient of the Crystal Bison Award.

Bison Financial Group gives the prize to an individual from a nonprofit organization based on volunteerism. Lahr says he is surprised and humbled to receive the award.

"It feels great to think that the community thinks that much of you and the work that you do. I don't really do what I see other people doing. I've often thought, 'Boy I ought to step up and do this or step up and do that.'"

He says he is glad to be a part of Greater Lafayette, where volunteering is encouraged and widespread.

"That's kind of the way it is in this community. Everybody wants to, you know, anybody that really feels good about a community wants to step up and do something. So, that's the neat thing about it."

Bison Financial Group sponsors the award and also gives $500 to the Long Center in recognition of Lahr.

Lahr does not yet know how the money will be put to use, but says it will be a big help for the organization.
