New IPFW chancellor is a native Hoosier

An Indiana native will be the next chancellor of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.

Purdue Trustee Tom Spurgeon announced Vicky Carwein will lead the campus. She currently serves as the chancellor of Washington State University Tri-Cities.

Carwein received her bachelor’s and doctorate degrees in nursing from what is now IUPUI.

She replaces Michael Wartell who is stepping down at the mandatory retirement age of 65.

IPFW is the fifth largest university in the state with an enrollment of more than 14,000.
