Purdue Galleries Wintry Mix 12/12 Preview

“Wintry Mix” is a week-long series of free lunchtime events and concerts by local performers at the Fountain Gallery. From Monday, December 12th to Friday,  December 16th activities will take place from 12 to 1pm. WBAA's John Clare spoke with Craig Martin, director of Purdue Galleries about the series.

The Fountain Gallery is located at 330 Main Street in downtown Lafayette.

Here's the line-up:

Mon. Dec. 12, 12 - 1 pm         Drop-in Printmaking

Purdue Galleries hands-on multiple color printmaking activity has been a favorite with audiences both young and old throughout the community for years. Come try your hand and make some prints of your own! All materials provided free of charge.

Tues. Dec. 13, 12 - 1 pm         Games Day

The perfect midday break: unwinding with a good game over lunch.  We’ll have a range of options, from board games to Nintendo.

Wed. Dec. 14, 12 - 1 pm         Performance by Kitty Campbell

With Kitty Campbell sing, this lunchtime performance is sure to brighten up your day!

Thur. Dec. 15, 12 - 1 pm         Yoga with Tenley Studio

Join Jen from Tenley Studio for some tips and tricks to help release tension and anxiety in your daily life. This quick tutorial will include a few breathing exercises and stretches that can be done from the comfort of your office chair, and are designed to help you "reset" during a stressful workday or even just the stress of the holiday season.

Fri. Dec. 16, 12 - 1 pm            Performance by the Danny Weiss and Jeff Wimble

Clarinetist Danny Weiss is a lecturer in the Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts at Purdue and guitarist Jeff Wimble is a graduate student in American Studies at Purdue.  They perform extensively in the Lafayette area and have been featured in the Galleries on a number of occasions.

Fri. Dec. 16, 7:30 pm Performance by James Moon and Kim Strother

James Moon and friends have regularly performed in Fountain Gallery and always bring a relaxed yet powerful sound to the room. They “play the kind of stuff you'd want to hear coming from the jukebox in a neon holler, coming from a radio in the break room at a corn syrup factory on third shift…” (Jacob Sunderlin)

The EMT Food Truck will be parked on Main Street near the Fountain Gallery, starting at 11:30 am on Wednesday Dec. 14 and Thursday Dec. 15.

The Fountain Gallery is open noon to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. All Purdue Galleries exhibitions and events are free and open to the public.

John Nasukaluk Clare is comfortable behind a microphone, streaming video or playing violin. A former broadcaster for NPR, John has previously worked with Voice of America, the Canadian Broadcast Corporation and stations in Texas, Kansas, Nevada, California, and Pennsylvania. In 2005, Clare earned the Deems Taylor Award from ASCAP for radio broadcasting, citing his work on 20/20 Hearing. Having performed with famed tenors Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli, John has worked with the Mozart Festival Texas, Mid Texas Symphony, Nevada Chamber Symphony, Shreveport Symphony, Abilene Philharmonic and Wichita Symphony Orchestra.
