Purdue Launches New Resource for Commercializing Innovations

Purdue is investing more than a million dollars to help university researchers get their products on the market.

The Innovation and Commercialization Center, or ICC, aims at technology research and development.

Vice President of Research Richard Buckius believes the center will open doors for the discoveries made at Purdue to have a greater impact on the local, state, and national economy.

The center is part of Purdue’s ten-year funding plan to increase revenue over the next decade years.

The money for the investment comes from alumni gifts and endowments.  No tuition dollars or state funding will support it.

Buckius says it’s hard to gauge the exact economic impact the I-C-C will have, but believes it will take about two-to-four years to break even.

Center Director Gerry McCartney says an advisory council will be set up to help innovators through the process.

He says the center will assist even those with an idea in the most infant stages.

The center will be housed in the Burton Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship.
