Riggs Community Health Center adds VP

An associate dean of the Indiana University School of Medicine is joining the Riggs Community Health Center.

Dr. Peter Nalinwill serve as vice president of medical affairs and be responsible for recruiting physicians and nurse practitioners.

“The center, our patients and our community are fortunate to have a physician of Dr. Nalin’s experience join our team,” said Veronique LeBlanc, president and chief executive officer. “He was instrumental in establishing the family medicine residency expansion program at Lafayette in 2012 and is a valuable addition to our center.”

The lack of medical staff was one reason LeBlanc gave last week when they announced the layoffs of 14 support staff. Since opening a second clinic site last fall, the lack of new patients, and new revenue, was causing a financial strain.

Nalin earned his medical degree at the University of Vermont College of Medicine; he completed a family medicine residency at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Penn., and a fellowship with the National Institute for Program Director Development.

His experience includes directing family medicine residency programs in rural New York and Indianapolis. Since 2006, Nalin has served as associate dean for graduate medical education at the Indiana University School of Medicine, a post he is continuing. He also serves on the Lafayette Community Advisory Board of the Indiana University School of Medicine - Lafayette.
