State Street master plan in initial stages

State Road 26 from the Wabash River to the western edge of the Purdue campus will simply become State Street this fall.

The stretch of road will become the responsibility of West Lafayette once the US 231 Bypass opens.

City and university officials are working together to develop a master plan for the future of State Street.

They say the goal is to create a cohesive look and address any safety and appearance issues.

Three companies submitted proposals with ideas for the master plan.

There is no timeline set for the document to be complete.
