West Lafayette’s Waste Water Utility Director is proposing four projects over the next decade-and-a-half, as part of an updated long-term control plan.
Dave Henderson says the goal is to increase the city’s capacity of handling rain in its sewers from the current quarter-inch per hour to two inches per hour.
He says doing so would reduce the amount of raw sewage that flows into the Wabash River during heavy rain.
The city’s Board of Works approved the updated 15-year plan yesterday.
It now heads to the state Department of Environmental Management for review.
State statute mandates the city complete the projects in its long-term control plan by 2027.
