President Donald Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court has many eyes turning to Indiana –  incumbent Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) is a key vote in the Senate.

Donnelly’s statement says only that he’ll carefully review Kavanaugh’s record and qualifications. Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) is more direct – he praises Kavanaugh as an “originalist.”

Indiana’s Republican U.S. Senator wants to expand national efforts to address infectious diseases caused by substance abuse disorders.

The Scott County HIV outbreak helped spark the idea for the legislation.

The “Eliminating Opioid-Related Infectious Disease Act” would allow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to expand education, monitoring and treatment efforts for infectious diseases like HIV and Hepatitis C.

A small group of demonstrators were turned away from U.S. Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.)’s Indianapolis office Tuesday as they sought to protest the GOP lawmaker’s vote on the Senate tax bill. They describe themselves as frustrated but undeterred.

The protest of Young’s vote on the tax overhaul was born out of a Facebook group discussion, says organizer Kendra Wilcox.

Azar Nominated For HHS Secretary

President Donald Trump announced the nomination of a former Eli Lilly executive as Health and Human Services Secretary Monday. Alex Azar is the latest Hoosier headed to Washington for a post in the federal health sector.

Vice President Mike Pence made his second official visit to Indiana in a month Thursday for a roundtable discussion with Gov. Eric Holcomb, Sen. Todd Young and a group of small business owners.

It was held on stage at TKO Graphix, a custom graphics manufacturer on the west side of Indianapolis.

Pence used the trip to continue a push for bipartisan support on tax reform. He says the administration wants to lower taxes on working families, small businesses and family farms.

About a dozen protesters gathered at the Tippecanoe County courthouse Friday to speak out against the latest Affordable Care Act repeal bill, currently awaiting a vote in the U.S. Senate.

The Greater Lafayette chapter of the group Indivisible is trying to urge as many people as possible to call senators Joe Donnelly (D-IN) and Todd Young (R-IN), and push them not to support the so-called Graham-Cassidy bill.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao met with Indiana leaders on Tuesday in the Michiana area to open Indiana’s toll road and discuss details of the South Shore Train expansion and double tracking project. Chao touted the public-private partnerships used in the two projects.

She said Indiana’s work on the toll road and South Shore rail line should be viewed as models for the rest of the country.
