Voters Will Decide on Tuttle Middle School Project

Crawfordsville voters will decide the future of one of the school district’s older structures.

Administrators say Tuttle Middle School is deteriorating and in need of repairs.

They say it will cost as much as $35-million to rebuild and are asking tax payers to help.

The Crawfordsville Community School Corporation is putting the project to a referendum on the November ballot.

It’s not expected to cost residents anymore because the High School construction debt is going off of the tax rate this year.

Tuttle is about 50-years old and has never undergone major repairs.  It is said to have a leaking roof and bursting pipes among other problems.

Crawfordsville Public to Discuss Middle School Project

The Crawfordsville Community School Corporation is looking to rebuild one of its facilities.

The district wants to construct a new Tuttle Middle School.

Superintendent Kathy Steele says the 50-year-old building is deteriorating and is overdue for improvements.

The estimated cost of the project is $35-million.

The district is hoping to put a referendum on the May ballot.

Steele says if it passes, there will be no increased expense for residents because the High School is going off of the tax rate this year.

There are two public forums scheduled to discuss the project.

They will be held Monday and Tuesday 7 p.m. at Crawfordsville High School.
