Line. Shape. Form. Space. Color. Value. Texture. The elements of art are often referred to as the building blocks or foundation of artwork. These building blocks are woven throughout all works of art and are vital to the creative process. They may appear simple at first, but they have a versatility that allow artists, and art appreciators, to stretch them to fit any kind or style of art. Through a deeper understanding of these elements it becomes easier to analyze, interpret, and even create artwork. This exhibition is focused on highlighting artists within the ArtSmart Indiana program by viewing their artwork through the lens of the elements of art. All of these works are from the Art Museum Permanent Collection and have been chosen because of their successful use of one or more elements of art. Outstanding artwork can often have several elements overlapping and informing one another. Throughout the gallery you will find prompts to help you view the artwork through the lens of each element. Use these concrete visual tools to analyze, unravel, and dive deeper into this art from our permanent collection. Museum CLOSED for Independence Day and Labor Day.
