WL junior/senior high school projects planned for summer

Proceeds from a new bond sale will help fund several projects at West Lafayette schools. Chief Financial Officer Ross Sloat says about $800,000 will pay for deferred maintenance, such as energy efficiency needs and roof repairs.

Roughly $700,000 will be combined with previous bond proceeds to pay for work at the high school. Sloat says that involves adding classroom space.

“That conversion will be moving some walls, moving lockers, doing whatever HVAC improvements need to be done. Since we’re losing some of that locker space where the kids like to sit at noon, we’re going to expand the cafeteria square footage.”

He says an interior wall will be moved to make the cafeteria larger.

Sloat says the maintenance projects aren’t finalized yet, but likely will cover several things at all the district’s buildings.

“We’re looking at energy efficiency things, like some boilers and energy controls, maybe some roofing. We’ll be assessing that. We have some infrastructure for technology that needs to be upgraded and we’ll be looking at that too.”

Sloat says the tax rate won’t change, because other bonds repayments will be ending as the new one begins.

Bids on the high school project are due today.
