Changes coming to the SAT

Changes are coming to the Scholastic Aptitude Test, more commonly known as the SAT.

The College Board has decided to make the essay portion of the exam optional beginning in Spring 2016.

That returns the highest possible score on the test to 1,600.

Purdue Dean of Admissions Pam Horne is the university’s representative on the College Board.

She says the changes are a result of conversations with both high school teachers and college faculty.

Horne says another change is that the College Board is partnering with Khan Academy to provide free SAT preparation.

That begins with the current SAT and continues with the new version of the test in 2016.
