Tippecanoe & Clinton counties issue mandatory burn ban

Tippecanoe and Clinton counties have issued a mandatory ban on open fires until further notice.

Officials say, despite the weekend rain, the area is still under moderate drought conditions as determined by the National Weather Service.

The Tippecanoe Emergency Management Agency is warning residents that the smallest ember can result in a massive fire, such as those seen in Buck Creek last week. Those brush fires are thought to have been brought on by sparks from a passing train.

Individuals violating the mandatory burn ban can receive a citation from local law enforcement. The charges could increase to felonies if the violation leads to structure damage or worse.
