Indiana Crop and Weather Report due out today

The USDA will release the Indiana Crop and Weather Report today detailing the condition of corn and soybeans in the state.

The report is expected to be good, with corn and soybeans on pace to have record yields this year.

That success will eventually affect the price of food for consumers.

Purdue Agricultural economist Chris Hurt says the effect will be immediate in some areas such as corn-based cereal and corn and soybean cooking oils.

He says the more gradual effect will be in livestock as the corn and soybean-based feed is consumed by larger herds thus producing more animals.

Hurt says chicken will be the first as poultry farms are already growing from the increase in feed.

He says pork will be next, followed by beef.
