It‘s "wait till next year" for the Indy Eleven soccer team in its attempt to win state financing help for a new stadium.
Negotiators deadlocked on how much money to commit to a plan to expand IUPUI‘s Carroll Stadium, the Eleven‘s current home.
Avon Republican Pete Miller, the bill‘s Senate sponsor, says they couldn‘t reach agreement on how the cost should be divided.
"Trying to find the right split between what's the state's share and the city's share and the university's and the team," says Miller. "And we just didn't get there."
Miller acknowledges the changing scope of the project complicated discussions.
The House originally proposed a tax-recapture plan to build a brand-new 82-million-dollar stadium.
The Senate replaced that plan with 20-million dollars for Carroll retrofitting, and the discussion changed course again in the session‘s final weeks when IUPUI said that amount would only cover simple renovations to the existing stadium -- adding seating capacity, as the Eleven wanted, would cost two-to-three times that amount.
Indy Eleven president Peter Wilt says in a statement the team hopes to build on the support it generated this year.
