Crawfordsville, Delphi among finalists for "Stellar Communities" program

Two area cities are on the list of finalists for the state’s “Stellar Communities” initiative.

Delphi and Crawfordsville are competing with five other of Indiana’s smaller cities and towns for grant money to fund comprehensive community development projects.

The Lieutenant Governor’s spokesperson Jay Kenworthy says the state selection committee will visit all seven finalists before making a decision.

Each finalist community will receive ten-thousand-dollars to prepare an in-depth Strategic Investment Plan proposal.

The state’s Stellar Communities program is a partnership between the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, and Indiana Department of Transportation.

The agencies will provide grant money to the winning communities to fund projects in several areas, including housing, street and roadwork, community centers, and other quality of life issues.
