Montessori School request denied

Montessori School of Greater Lafayette wants to expand, but does not have the support of the Tippecanoe Area Plan Commission.

The APC voted nine-to-one to deny a request that would have opened the door for the school to construct another building.

Montessori School owns property in the Glenwood Heights Subdivision, but wants to withdraw the land from the formal boundaries of the subdivision.

Sandy Shoemaker is a homeowner in the area.  She says such a move would take away from the neighborhood’s feel.

Patrick Williams is a member of the Montessori Parents Association and resident of the neighborhood.

He believes the school’s plans are positive and would provide more educational options for families.

School officials say they need the extra space to accommodate toddlers.

They say they are considering different options for the property that fall in line with county code.
