2013 budget for WL WWTU approved, stormwater fee to be decided next week

The director of West Lafayette’s Waste Water Treatment Utility is hopeful the City Council will give final approval to a new storm water fee next week.

Dave Henderson says the monthly charge is the only way to raise the revenue for projects that are necessary to comply with federal regulations related to the Clean Water Act.

Council members last month approved an $8 fee for residential customers on first reading.

Commercial customers would be charged based on the amount of impervious surface on their property.

The fee is scheduled for a final vote at the council’s meeting February 4th.

City officials have already approved the 2013 Waste Water Utility budget.

The spending plan is 2.9% more than 2012.

Henderson says a 2% raise for employees accounts for most of the increase.
