Breast Cancer Awareness Month focusing on prevention

Breast cancer will claim the lives of 850 Indiana women this year.

Another nearly 4,500 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed in the state as well.

The American Breast Cancer Society hopes activities this month encourage women to take better care of themselves.

A community walking event to raise money for research will take place in Lafayette October 27th.

It is just one of more than 270 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks being held in communities around the nation during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Cancer Society also provides support programs for women dealing with the disease.

The Reach to Recovery program helps newly diagnosed patients cope, while the Look Good Feel Better program helps patients manage the physical side effects of treatment.

More information about awareness events happening this month (Oct) are available on the American Cancer Society website.
