Clark Decides Against Run For Mayor Of Indianapolis

Former State Senator Murray Clark has ruled out a run for mayor of Indianapolis next year.

Clark says he got out of town after Greg Ballard‘s announcement he wouldn‘t seek reelection to discuss a possible campaign with his wife. He says he basically decided against it then, and finalized the decision after returning last week.

Clark doesn‘t rule out a run for mayor in the future, but says the timing wasn‘t right to run in 2015. He notes he‘ll have three kids in college next year, and is two years into a stint heading the Indianapolis office of law firm Faegre, Baker and Daniels.

"We felt like it would take, for us, a 24/7 commitment," says Clark. "And while it was a close call we just felt like it was tough at this point in time to commit that."

Indianapolis Senator Jim Merritt says he wouldn‘t have run if Clark had. With Clark out, he says he‘ll decide by year‘s end whether to seek the Republican nomination. But he says he‘s also reaching to other potential candidates in search of "another Greg Ballard."

Former U-S Attorney Joe Hogsett and Indianapolis Representative Ed DeLaney are seeking the Democratic nomination.
