IN "Company to Watch" list includes one from Lafayette

A Lafayette based cyber security research and software firm is on the state’s “Company to Watch” list.

Emerging Threats is about three-years old, but the company has existed under another name since 2003. It sells threat intelligence for the online community.

CEO Ken Gramley says making it onto the list acknowledges the company’s hard work.

“It’s certainly an honor that helps show that we are on the cutting edge of what’s happening in the state and we’re proud to be there.”

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation annually highlights businesses in the state that officials think stand out in the marketplace. All 33 businesses on the “Company to Watch” list will be honored at a ceremony next month.

Gramley says Emerging Threats is based in Lafayette, because their founder happened to be living here when he was forming the company. However, most of their customers are out-of-state.

“We sell lists of who is actively doing bad things,” he says. “We’re about to introduce a database where you can query, so if you run a network and you see that some of your computers are connecting to a specific IP address or domain name, and you’re concerned about whether that’s safe or not, we’ll be able to give you information on what other bad things we’ve seen it do in the past.”

Gramley says, eventually, they will have history on more than 100-million IP addresses online for their customers. Right now, he says Emerging Threats can identify a couple hundred-thousand IP and domain names that are actively doing bad things.
