Drought returning to some IN counties

Some Indiana counties are experiencing drought conditions again.

The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor show Benton, Newton, Warren and Lake counties are classified as having moderate drought. Prior to this week those areas, and about half of the state, were considered abnormally dry.

The Indiana State Climate officewarns that the central portion of the state could move into moderate drought next week without enough rain, or if it continues to lose water.

The lack of rain is affecting crops. The U.S. Department of Agriculture rates 66% of Indiana’s corn as good or excellent. For soybeans, 62% are good or excellent.
