Fundraising For New Community Building In Lafayette Nears $12-million

Nearly $12-million has been raised for a new community building on the Ivy Tech- Lafayette campus.

The project is being spearheaded by The Intersection Connection, a collaboration among community organizations.

The 120,000 square-foot structure will be occupied by the YMCA, Junior Achievement, and an IU Health Arnett clinical practice.

Ivy Tech Chancellor David Bathe says the facility will help with enrollment and retention efforts.

"With the center that will be there for child care, [children] can be housed right there and [students] can come from their 11 o'clock class and take their kids to lunch and go back," Bathe says. "We also have students with our early childhood education program that will able to use that as a laboratory facility, and it will actually allow us to expand the program."

A construction timeline, building specifics, and final costs are still in the planning stages.

But officials say they estimate they have raised a little more than half of what will be needed for the project.
