Greater Lafayette welcomes Chinese delegates

A delegation of 34 people from China is in Greater Lafayette for the next five days.

They are here to learn about business and technology efforts underway at local companies and Purdue.

Director of the university’s China Center, Lippin Cai, says the trip comes with potential economic opportunities for Greater Lafayette.

“Over the years we have found that these individuals have interest to learn about us and potential may bring business opportunities to us either in trade or in investment,” he said.

The delegation is made up of Chinese business leaders and government officials.

It’s the third straight year the group has traveled to Greater Lafayette.

Cai says these types of gathering contribute to the local community’s growing presence abroad.

“I think that our community is getting recognized by some pockets of China," he said.  "Knowing our locations, I would suspect more and more people would come to appreciate us.”
