Towards the end of 2016, the beginning of August, my family picked up our lives in Louisville, Kentucky, and moved to West Lafayette, Indiana. My dad sold his business, my parents sold our house, and we all sold our relationships. We did all this so we could go to a church here in West Lafayette. We took a big risk. Everyone thought we were crazy. But it has been the biggest payoff of our lives. I believe a life without risks is a life with regrets.
Moving to Indiana was not in my best interest. I had to throw away relationships I had built and everything I knew for somewhere I did not want, nor ever wanted, to be. Oh, and did I mention I was going into my junior year of high school? High school is already hell. Try being the new girl. But by taking the risks of switching high schools, I have met a ton of new people, I have experienced new things, and I have made new memories that I will have with me for the rest of my life. If I would not have taken that chance, I would not have discovered new sides to me that I never knew existed.
Risks are scary, yet thrilling, much like life. Talking to that guy that is super cute, or raising a hand in the classroom or wearing a piece of clothing that most people would never even consider purchasing are just a few of the many ways I take a daily risks. I think every day you live, is a day to do something that scares you. Now, I am not guaranteeing that risks will always have a payoff right away. But at least you can say that you looked your fear in the eye, took a chance, and did what you thought you would never do. In the long run, risks helped me grow as a person and made me do things I never thought I would accomplish. Without taking risks, I would not be the person I am today.
