IURC approves water rate increase affecting WL

Indiana American Water has approval to raise its rates.

But what that means for West Lafayette residents is not yet known.

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission approved a 1% increase in operating revenue for the water company. That’s significantly lower than the original request seeking about 10% more revenue.

The approval means Indiana American can increase revenue by nearly $2 million.

The company still must submit new schedules of rates and charges with the state for approval.

Under the initial request filed last summer, West Lafayette residents were facing an average increase of roughly $17 per month.
