Lafayette hospitals named in Medical Errors report

Two Lafayette hospitals are named on a report for medical errors last year.

IU Health Arnett was flagged for a surgery in which doctors operated on the wrong body part.  There were more than a dozen similar cases last year at other hospitals in the state.

Saint Elizabeth East committed two errors, according to the report.  Both involved leaving foreign objects in a patient after surgery.

The number of reported errors across the state reached an all-time high in 2010.  There were 107 incidents, which is the most since the study began five years ago.

The most common problem found in the survey was patients experiencing stage three or four pressure ulcers – or bed sores – acquired after admission to a hospital.
