Lt. Governor Ellspermann Eyes Top Ivy Tech Job

Ivy Tech Community College president Thomas Snyder is set to retire next year. Now, the college board of trustees is moving forward with their search to find a successor.

On Monday, Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann said she’s eyeing the job. Today she released a statement saying she’s informed Governor Mike Pence of the possibility, but the decision is ultimately up to the school’s Board of Trustees.

If Ellspermann would take the job, it would leave Pence without a running mate during a re-election bid.

Ivy Tech trustees hope to find a new president to lead the statewide network by this summer. They began the process in September when Snyder announced he would retire in 2016.  Trustee Michael Dora has been named chair of the search committee.

The board also hired R. William Funk and Associates -- a Texas-based headhunter viewed as one of the top in higher education. Funk has helped hire numerous Indiana college presidents, including Mitch Daniels at Purdue University. Next, the trustees will name an advisory committee.
