Next Generation to unveil "Quality of Life" ideas

After months of conversations and surveys, a group is prepared to make its recommendations on how to make Greater Lafayette better.

Next Generation Consulting is outlining eight goals to improve the area’s “Quality of Life.”

Those include making the community greener, enhancing bicycle access, and hosting diversity roundtables.

The group also proposes ways to keep young professionals from taking jobs elsewhere and moving away.

The findings suggest more occupational options are needed to do so – meaning - the community needs to invest in new industries and companies.

Next Generation found that about half of residents under the age of 40 plan to leave the region in the next four years.

If that happens, the group estimates the economic impact could be a $13 million loss.

Next Generation also encourages Lafayette to strengthen travel to and from Chicago and Indianapolis.

About 2,000 residents took part in the process.

A presentation of all the findings is Tuesday afternoon in West Lafayette.

Purdue students also will host a Community of Choice conversation Tuesday evening.
