IN preparing for health insurance marketplace

A federal health insurance marketplace – a major portion of the Affordable Care Act – is about to become available to Hoosiers.  The state is working to prepare its citizens for the start of the enrollment period, which is October 1.

Uninsured Hoosiers and those who pay for their own coverage, not through their employer, will have access to several private insurance options.  And the state has set up a website to help guide residents.

Department of Insurance Chief Deputy Logan Harrison says visiting the site before investigating the marketplace will help Hoosiers know what is available.

“They can go through and they can see, ‘Hey, am I eligible for Medicaid and, if not, am I eligible for a premium tax credit by the federal government that will enable me to perhaps get some federal assistance to purchase a private health insurance plan?”

The web address is www.in.gov/healthcarereform. Harrison says it will also provide resources for finding people trained to help guide Hoosiers through the federal health insurance marketplace.
