Purdue Extension director interviewing for Nebraska job

Purdue University College of Agriculture

The head of Purdue Extension is poised to leave his job. Chuck Hibberd is interviewing next week for the position of dean and director of extension at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The extension service there confirms he is the only finalist for the job.

Hibberd came to Purdue in 2007 from Nebraska, where he spent 13 years working at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center. He has even started a Facebook pagepromoting his effort to land the job.

He also was named as a finalist for the head of extension job at Kansas State, but pulled out of the process prior to his formal campus interviews earlier this year.

At Purdue, he oversees a $50 million annual budget, offices in each of Indiana’s 92 counties, and roughly 500 campus and county-based Extension faculty and staff members. He also helped fight a 15% funding cut during the last state budget cycle and initiated a new community sustainability effort for Extension.

Purdue University salary information from October, 2011, showed Hibberd's pay was $216,140 annually.
