From the Tony award winning Mary Zimmerman, The Secret In The Wings has a new take of little-known fairy tales weaving a rather dark and beautiful new story. Beasts, beauties and other familiar/not so unfamiliar characters tell tales "from close corners of childhood to distant basements of imagination."

John Clare spoke with Amy Lynn Budd about the Purdue Theater production opening Friday, November 11th.

Amy Lynn Budd is currently Visiting Assistant Professor at Purdue University. This 2016-17 school year, she will direct Mary Zimmerman's The Secret in the Wings and the musical Cabaret.

Prior to starting her MFA, Amy directed, performed, and taught in Providence, Rhode Island for sixteen years. She directed regional and world premiere productions at Perishable Theatre, Brown University's MFA Playwriting program (under the leadership of Mac Wellman and Nilo Cruz), Contemporary Theatre Company, All Children’s Theatre Ensemble, and others.

Amy was a 2006-09 Resident Artist at Perishable Theatre where she developed a full-length performance work, The Thing that Ate My Brain…Almost.  It went on to tour to Austin, Texas and Washington, DC.

As a teaching artist, Amy collaborated on dozens and dozens of performances annually from 2001-2013. She taught acting and playwriting; directed plays by and for first through twelfth graders; and worked from the ground up with students, using academic content as a basis for ensemble-devised works.
