A cyber security firm is growing in the Purdue Research Park. Sypris Electronics officially opened its research center Thursday morning. Its focus is on network protection and critical infrastructure.

President John Walsh, who is a Purdue graduate, says locating in the Research Park will allow collaboration with the university.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity for our company to be working so closely with such an esteemed university, the amount of technology and capability here, and how we can bring that together to make a better world, and protect our country and others from this growing and emerging threat.”

Sypris is located in the Kurz Purdue Technology Center on Win Hentschel Boulevard.

Senior vice president Rich Davis says the new center is critical to the company, as is the relationship with Purdue.

“What you do here is educate people to push the leading edge. You push the leading edge because you want to learn about it,” he says. “We want to push the leading edge because we want to sell it. It’s a symbiotic relationship that allows us to do things we couldn’t do on our own.”

A Purdue official says the opening of Sypris has already produced new joint research opportunities and tech transfers from the university to the company.

West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis says the city and university work together to bring in a firm like Sypris to improve the community and students.

“Now, when we can brag about recruiting students with an understanding that they’re not just going to contribute to their own success academically, but they’re also going to contribute to making this world a better place to live – I don’t know how that can be beat.”

Sypris Electronics is hiring for software engineers, software architects and cyber security engineers. More information about the company is HERE.
