First responders throughout the region are learning more about the type of emergency equipment available in case of a serious situation.
The District Four Task Force – which includes Tippecanoe and surrounding counties – is holding open houses at the fairgrounds in Lafayette to teach about the materials.
Commander Jeff Houston says the equipment is essential for a number of circumstances, such as tornados and earthquakes.
Support Element Leader Smokey Anderson says part of the process is to make sure those who work with the gear know how to set it up and tear it down properly.
The task force gave tours, mostly to elected officials, of the equipment which includes military tents and trailers.
Houston says depending on the size of the emergency, the equipment may be needed for a statewide effort.
