Their "Opening Night" concert is Saturday, October 8th and includes an all Russian program: Glinka's Overture to Ruslan and Lyudmila; Khachaturian Excerpts from Gayane and Spartacus Suites; and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4.
The idea for the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra was hatched in 1949 by a group of local musicians and music enthusiasts who wanted to provide an opportunity for local players like themselves to perform orchestral music. Within a year, their vision for a community orchestra was realized, and in 1950 the LSO was officially founded, a board was elected, Thomas E. Wilson was hired as part-time conductor, and the volunteer players began presenting their first season to a receptive audience.
