WL breaks ground on new fire station

The West Lafayette Fire Department hopes to have a new facility up and running by the end of the year.

It broke ground Wednesday on the new 9,000-square foot Fire Station Three.

Chief Tom Heath says its amenities and location will help cut response times by as much as 45 seconds.

It will be located on Kalberer Road on land donated by the Purdue Research Foundation.

The project costs about $2.5-million.

It’s expected to be paid off in seven years.

President of the West Lafayette Redevelopment Commission Larry Oates believes the building will serve as a cornerstone of the community.

Firefighters working at the current temporary facility will move across the street to the new building.
