We are all saddened by the death of Tyler Trent. The Carmel native left Purdue early last year to enter hospice care. He battled osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, since he was in high school. After camping out in front of Ross-Ade Stadium during the 2017 football season, Trent's story has become a source of inspiration worldwide.

The next concert from the Lafayette Chamber Singers is Sunday afternoon, December 9th, and features selections for the holidays. On the program is music by William Byrd, Ruth Watson Henderson, as well as selections by Hugo Distler, Norman Dello Joio, and Michael Praetorius. Artistic Director Clayton Lein says the program features music old and new, including music for ensemble and piano. WBAA’s John Clare spoke to Lein about “O Magnum Mysterium” in the WBAA studios.

The award winning NYC Mariachi group Flor de Toloaches performs Thursday night at Purdue University. The Purdue Convocations event starts at 7:30pm at the Purdue Memorial Ballrooms. Flor de Toloaches mix traditional Mexican music with pop tunes, and their own originals. championed by Paul McCartney, Questlove, and Café Tacvba, they hail from diverse cultural backgrounds such as Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Australia, Colombia, Germany, Italy and the United States.

Holiday Cheer and All That Jazz takes place Saturday night at Loeb Playhouse with the Purdue Jazz Bands.

The 44th Annual Tuba Christmas is taking place Saturday, December 8th at Loeb Playhouse. It's a tradition started by tuba player and professor Harvey Philips in honor his teacher and mentor William Bell, who was born on Christmas Day! Over 80 musicians will perform holiday favorites on low brass instruments including euphoniums, sousaphones, and tubas.

The Wabash Valley Youth Symphony present their 18th season opening concert Sunday, November 11th at 7 pm at the Long Center for the Arts in Lafayette. The program includes Franck's Symphony in d minor,  Bernstein's On the Waterfront, and Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto - featuring violinist Peter Zhang.
