Cook County, Illinois, which includes Chicago and some suburbs, is on track for its highest rate of suicide among Black people in at least a decade. While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports the number of suicides in the U.S. has been rising for decades, there hasn’t been a similar rise in suicide among Latinx or white residents of Cook County this year.
