INDOT Investigating Work On Almost 200 Road Projects

INDOT says a demand that a Fort Wayne contractor replace or pay for allegedly substandard asphalt isn't necessarily a sign of similar cases to come.

INDOT is testing asphalt on nearly 200 road projects performed by 44 different contractors, including additional projects by Brooks Construction of Fort Wayne.

The Indiana Department of Transportation is asking a former contractor to either repave a stretch of Indiana highway that’s prematurely deteriorating or else reimburse the state the amount it paid the company in 2012. The demand comes as the agency looks into nearly 200 completed projects it suspects could contain subpar asphalt.

The executive director of the Cass County Humane Society suspects a breeder is somehow connected to the deaths of 25 dogs in the past week.

Lisa Clark says all of the canines were Bluetick Coonhounds, a breed that is relatively rare in Indiana.

“I feel like it’s a breeder who either doesn’t want to breed any more or can’t afford it and decided just to get rid of them," says Clark. "Or they’re contaminated somehow, maybe they’re not full-blooded Blueticks, and he doesn’t want them.”

Blizzard Warning for White, Cass counties

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for White and Cass counties from Sunday night until Monday 7 a.m.

Meteorologists say heavy snow will taper off Sunday night with total accumulations of ten to 16 inches. The winds will increase to 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts up to 40 miles per hour. They say the result is blowing and drifting snow overnight with blizzard conditions.

Temperatures are expected to drop drastically overnight with lows between five and 15 degrees below zero. Wind chills between 30 and 45 below zero are possible through Tuesday.
