Frankfort Police Department

The Frankfort Police Department building is stuck in the past, according to its police chief, and he’s hoping an income tax hike will fix that.

The Clinton County Council has approved doubling the Local Income Tax, to generate more funding for public safety agencies.

Frankfort Police Chief Troy Bacon says that’ll allow his department to expand.

Frankfort city and Clinton County officials have each set aside $13,000 to enter a regional planning organization. The group of counties would approve, then fund, projects using local contributions as seed money for grants.

Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes says his county needs to make itself seem bigger and more populous to potential investors.

After eight years of declining revenue, the Clinton County Health Department may have to raise service fees to make up for its losses.

The Clinton County Council recently increased the department’s loan cap to $65,000 -- $15,000 more than what it was allowed to borrow at the beginning of this year.

Health Department Administrator John Brannan says the department is asking for more grants from the state before taking money from the community.
