Gov. Eric Holcomb says places of worship will serve as a “test or control group” under his reopening plan.

Holcomb’s guidelines still impose restrictions on businesses and recreation areas, keeping some closed and mandating capacity limits on others.

But religious institutions can hold worship services starting Friday without limitation. Holcomb says he thought they would be the “most responsible” group to let fully reopen.

Gov. Eric Holcomb didn’t shed any more light Monday on how businesses can be reasonably expected to enforce new COVID-19 restrictions as they’re allowed to reopen.

Tippecanoe County’s COVID-19 case total reached 181 Monday, a daily increase of 29 confirmed cases. 

The Indiana State Department of Health reported 1,151 deaths from COVID-19 and 20,507 novel coronavirus cases statewide.

Governor Holcomb Outlines How – And Why – The State Will Reopen

Tippecanoe County’s COVID-19 case total jumped to 156 Sunday, the county’s biggest one-day increase since the Indiana State Department of Health began tracking novel coronavirus numbers in early March. ISDH reported a total of 36 new positive cases. 

ISDH also reported 1,132 COVID-19 deaths statewide, and 19,933 novel coronavirus cases.

The first Lafayette Farmer’s Market of the year opened at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, and market coordinator Rebecca Jones gave everyone the same greeting.

“Hi! Welcome to the market,” Jones said, to masked and unmasked customers, to families, and to customers out on their own. “We do ask that you enter and exit the market at the same point, which is right here.” (At the corner of 5th Street and Columbia Street.) “Each of our vendors do have their own lines, which is indicated by the orange tape.”

Tippecanoe County’s COVID-19 cases rose to 120 Saturday, and the Indiana State Department of Health reported 1,115 novel coronavirus deaths statewide. 

ISDH also reported 19,295 confirmed COVID-19 cases statewide, with 104,141 tests conducted.
