The RV industry is celebrating a grand opening of its newest facility in Elkhart Monday. The RV Technical Institute will help reduce a shortage of workers who repair recreational vehicles.

The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority announced two grants to build affordable housing in the state meant to help attract workers and promote home ownership. 

The governor’s Teacher Compensation Commission will host public comment sessions across the state in August. 

The shell building helped market the region to potential employers, according to Horan.

She says the city's proximity to major transportation routes also makes the Evansville area competitive for new investment. 

Senator and presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) made a campaign stop in Elkhart Wednesday. She used the RV Hall of Fame as the backdrop for pushing a jobs policy she released earlier in the week.

Elkhart Police Officer With DUI Promoted To Detective

Elkhart’s Police Merit Commission officially promoted to detective a police officer who has a DUI conviction in Noblesville, Indiana from last spring.

President Donald Trump unveiled his new slogan,"Keep America Great” at his campaign rally yesterday in Elkhart to a welcoming crowd. Protesters across the street however, had other thoughts about the president’s impact.

 

President Donald Trump’s supporters waited outside of the Elkhart middle school venue for hours before the rally. And they got an earful of chants against the president.
 

Currently, 32 states have laws that set up guidelines for victims of some crimes to meet with the offenders. The precursor to these programs was established in Elkhart County in 1977. It serves around 800 cases annually.

The program is now threatened with a funding cut.

Many of the cases that go through the program look like Robert Perry’s. Not so long ago Perry was struggling with addiction and decided to rob a store.

A new report says some Indiana cities could be among the most impacted in the country by a potential trade war.

The Brookings Institution says Columbus is just more than 50 percent dependent on exports – more than any other metro area in the country. Elkhart, Kokomo and Lafayette are also in the top 10.

A northern Indiana RV-maker will add more than 400 new jobs in LaGrange County in the next two years, as the region’s mainstay industry continues to rebound.

Forest River is one of northern Indiana’s leading recreational vehicle manufacturers, employing 11,000 Hoosiers in Elkhart and LaGrange counties.

It now plans to repurpose several empty factories in the small town of LaGrange and add 425 jobs. It’s receiving tax incentives from the town and state to do so.
