Contracts in place for Daniels, Hazell

Dec 14, 2012

Purdue’s Board of Trustees is set to finalize contracts for the university’s next president and football coach.

The Compensation Committee agreed to pay Mitch Daniels $420,000 annually.

Trustees chairman Keith Krach says the contract is performance-based.

“We will decide all of those (benchmarks) by June," he said.  "From a directional standpoint it's along the lines student success, graduation rates, faculty excellence, philanthropic development those types of things.”

A group of Purdue community members is speaking out against the appointment of Mitch Daniels as university president.

Students, faculty, and staff members gathered on the Memorial Mall Saturday to protest the board of trustees’ appointment of Daniels last month.

Demonstrator and organizer Julia Thompson is pursuing a Ph.D. in Engineering Education. She has multiple problems with the decision to hire Daniels.

A contract between Daniels and the university has not been finalized, instead the two have a memo of understanding. Daniels will serve at least five years as president.
