Purdue Community Voter Registration Day

Sep 24, 2012

Tuesday is National Voter Registration Day. The League of Women Voters of Greater Lafayette and Purdue Student Government are using the occasion to register more people before the General Election.

Bobby Egan is the executive director of governmental relations for PSG. He says he wants to change the perception that few college-age students vote.

October 9 is the deadline to register to voter for the General Election in November.

The League of Women Voters of Greater Lafayette is holding a series of registration events before then, and hosting a special program Thursday night on voter information.

It's at the Tippecanoe County Public Library's downtown branch and begins with a voter registration opportunity at 6 pm. The program with Andy Downs begins at 6:30 pm.

Eight men and women vying for seats in the General Assembly made their case in front of constituents Wednesday night.

It was part of a forum put on by the Lafayette League of Women Voters and Wabash Area Lifetime Learning Association.

Lafayette resident Ron Anders says he still has some research to do before casting a ballot in November.  But, thinks the forum gave him a better understanding of the candidates.

Lafayette area residents will have an opportunity to talk to local lawmakers and share their ideas.

The League of Women Voters is hosting a legislative breakfast Saturday, February 11th.

League Publicity Director Deb Schwarte says the goal is to prepare the public for upcoming elections.

She hopes community members as well as Purdue students attend.

So far, two legislators have confirmed they will be there, but as many as six of them may show up.
