McCormick, Ritz, Reed To Discuss Future Of Public Education

Aug 24, 2017

State Superintendent Jennifer McCormick and two of her predecessors from both political parties will come together Saturday for a public forum on education.

The panel discussion Saturday in Indianapolis tackles a broad topic: “the future of Indiana public education in an era of privatization, declining budgets and increasing expectations”

State Superintendent Jennifer McCormick will be joined by Glenda Ritz and Suellen Reed.

Ritz, a Democrat, was superintendent for a term marked by political infighting with Republicans lawmakers and former Governor Mike Pence. McCormick, a Republican, beat Ritz in the 2016 election.

Reed, also a Republican, was Indiana school chief from 1992 to 2009.

The discussion — which will likely include issues like school funding and private school vouchers —  is hosted by the Indiana Coalition for Public Education.

The forum is 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Washington Township Schools’ Dean Evans Center, 8550 Woodfield Crossing Boulevard in Indianapolis. Details on how to RSVP are at
