Drug-Free Coalition must reduce staff, programs after grant renewal denied

A lack of funding is causing a local non-profit will have to reduce its staff and some of its programs.

The Drug Free Coalition of Tippecanoe County was not awarded a renewal of its five-year Drug Free Communities grant.

The money covered the salaries of two staff members.

It also paid for police officers to conduct checks to make sure tobacco and alcohol retailers aren’t selling to minors and that convenience stores don’t have illegal synthetic drugs on their shelves.

Those positions and programs are being cut for now.

Coalition leaders plan to apply for the Drug Free Communities grant again next year.
