Diversity Summit explores ways to make Greater Lafayette more welcoming

The Diversity Roundtable is continuing the conversation about how to make Greater Lafayette welcoming to all people.

The organization hosted the fourth Diversity Roundtable today at Ivy Tech.

The event featured a keynote address from Dr. Gloria Thomas, who is the director of the Center for the Education of Women at the University of Michigan.

The city of Ann Arbor was identified as one of seven peer cities for Greater Lafayette.

Thomas says having visible leaders from different backgrounds does a lot to help people feel like they belong.

She says having cultural amenities such as churches, hair salons, and civil rights organizations is also an important factor.

Members of the Diversity Roundtable plan to use the information gathered at the forum to develop an overall diversity campaign for the Greater Lafayette area.
